Doan, Coyotes rip Blue Jackets

Hockey Betting Lines

11/12/2008 - Columbus, OH (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Shane Doan scored twice and Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 31 shots as Phoenix earned a 5-2 victory over Columbus.

Steven Reinprecht, Kevin Porter and Martin Hanzal also scored for the Coyotes, who won their season-high third straight game. Keith Yandle had two assists and Doan finished with three points.

Derick Brassard and Rick Nash scored for the Blue Jackets, who had a point in six straight games until Wednesday. They also had a three-game win streak broken.

Steve Mason, a third-round pick by the Blue Jackets in 2006, made 25 saves but suffered his first NHL loss after three victories. He was recalled from Syracuse earlier this month when Columbus' No. 1 netminder, Pascal Leclaire, went down with an ankle injury.

Nash had a goal disallowed midway through the first period after he used his gloves to knock the puck in the net, and Reinprecht scored with 3:26 remaining in the stanza, deflecting Yandle's shot from the left point.

Doan registered his eighth goal of the season at 7:41 of the second with a great forehand to backhand move on a breakaway, immediately after an interference penalty to Columbus' Mike Commodore expired.

Porter and Doan scored 1:24 apart in the third. Porter's marker came in front after Mason made the initial stick save. Doan then swooped in at 9:24 and was seemingly robbed by Mason, but the goaltender's momentum carried him into the net with the puck tucked under his arm. The Coyotes were awarded the 4-0 lead after a video review.

Nash broke a nine-game goalless drought by scoring on the power play from in front off a pass from Brassard with 8:30 remaining.

The Blue Jackets trimmed the deficit with 3:18 left on a wraparound by Brassard, and they pulled Mason for the extra attacker with just over a minute left. Hanzal scored into an empty net, shorthanded, with 22 seconds left.

Game Notes

Stanley Cup betting

New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.

The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.

MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.

Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.
